Fix GPT-Live not showing or interrupting
Most GPT-Live problems fall into four groups: rollout availability, the selected Voice mode, microphone or network conditions, and Live reacting to pauses or other speakers. Start with the smallest check that matches the symptom.

If Live is not showing
Update ChatGPT
Install the latest iOS or Android app, or refresh ChatGPT.com in a supported current browser.
Check Settings → Voice
Look for Live, Advanced, and Standard. The Voice icon alone does not prove which mode is selected.
Check eligibility
Availability depends on plan, region, workspace, and app version, and rollout can be gradual.
Use a fallback
If Live is unavailable, continue with Advanced or Standard Voice instead of repeatedly reinstalling.
If Voice is missing in Codex
Use the current macOS or Windows desktop app, open a new empty Codex task, and start Voice before the first message. Check eligible plan and workspace settings, microphone permission, API-key login, and whether another Voice conversation is active.

Improve what Live hears
Use Voice Isolation
On iPhone, open Control Center during Voice, select Mic Mode, and enable Voice Isolation when available.
State the turn rule
Begin with “Wait until I ask you to respond.” Sounds and long pauses can still trigger a reply, but the instruction helps.
Transcripts are not exact recordings
Live responses appear as text while spoken, and a transcript is added after the conversation. OpenAI warns that it may not exactly match either speaker, especially with overlap, noise, or rapid conversation.
For an editable record of one recording, use ChatGPT Dictation instead. For important decisions, verify the original information rather than treating a Voice transcript as authoritative evidence.
